Yesterday I went to a sea shanty singing group, which sounds like an odd basis for a recommendation. Yet without Sue’s brilliant coaching I’d never have added this lovely experience to my life.
Sue gently coached me to expose my fear of singing, and the childhood experiences that had brought it about. She then named it, held it up to the light and helped me look at it. Then she did the thing all great coaches do – she helped me find the courage to look the fear in the eye, and challenged me to go to singing lessons. More than that she created the accountability I needed to get me through the door on that first time. Wow, it was scary – and I did it. 3 years on I’m now part of a small and friendly Sunday evening group where I get to sing my heart out and have fun. Liberation!
