One of the most effective ways to understand these deep-rooted behaviours is through the concept of “Driver” patterns—ways of thinking and acting that push us in certain directions, often without us realising it. While they may have helped us cope in the past, these patterns can also hold us back, keeping us stuck in cycles of stress, perfectionism, or overworking.

Do Any of These Patterns Sound Like You?

The five Driver patterns influence how we approach life, success, and even our sense of fulfilment. Recognising which one dominates your mindset is the first step towards breaking free from limiting beliefs and reclaiming a sense of ease and clarity.

Be Perfect – Always striving for flawlessness, constantly self-correcting, and feeling uncomfortable with mistakes. While high standards can be beneficial, the relentless pursuit of perfection often leads to burnout and a fear of taking risks.

Please People – Saying yes to everyone, even at the expense of your own needs. If you often prioritise others’ expectations over your own well-being, this pattern might be at play. Over time, it can lead to resentment, exhaustion, and a loss of personal identity.

Be Strong – Keeping emotions and vulnerability locked away, even when connection requires openness. This pattern may make you appear resilient, but it can also create distance in your relationships and prevent you from seeking support when needed.

Hurry Up – Rushing through everything, constantly feeling like there’s not enough time, and struggling to slow down. While this may drive productivity, it can also create unnecessary stress and prevent you from being present in the moment.

Try Hard – Placing all the focus on effort rather than results. If you believe that working harder will always lead to success, you might find yourself overcomplicating tasks, pushing yourself beyond limits, or missing out on opportunities that require less effort but more strategic action.

Breaking Free from These Patterns

Understanding these patterns is one thing, but transforming them is another. In my best-selling book, Screw Meditation!: How to Switch Off a Busy Brain, Be More Productive & Enjoy Life!, I explore how these subconscious behaviours keep us feeling stuck, overwhelmed, and exhausted.

More importantly, I share practical strategies to help you shift these patterns so that you can:

Build confidence without needing perfection.
Set boundaries and say no without guilt.
Embrace vulnerability and strengthen your relationships.
Slow down and be more present in your life.
Focus on what truly matters rather than just effort.

The Power of Self-Awareness

When you recognise and shift these subconscious patterns, you create space for a more fulfilling, balanced, and intentional life. You gain the ability to make clearer decisions, form deeper connections, and prioritise your own needs without guilt.

So take a moment to reflect—which of these patterns resonates with you the most? Once you identify it, you’ve already taken the first step towards meaningful change.
